Gbajabiamila officially resigns from House of Reps after 20 years
After 20 years, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, submitted his resignation on Wednesday.
Gbajabiamila will now concentrate on serving as President Bola Tinubu's Chief of Staff (CoS).
His letter of appointment as Tinubu's CoS was dated June 14.
The letter calling for Gbajabiamila's resignation was read aloud by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on Wednesday during plenary.
He was originally elected in 2003, and until his departure on Wednesday, he served in the house for 20 years.
On February 25, Gbajabiamila of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won the Surulere I Federal Constituency election for a sixth time prior to his appointment.
However, due to his most recent appointment, there were worries about how he would manage both roles due to the fact that the former Speaker and his colleagues were inaugurated for the 10th Assembly on Tuesday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, may hold a new election to fill the position as a result of the lawmaker's resignation.
