Mother beats 4-month-old daughter to death over failed relationship with father
Life in prison was handed down to a Houston woman who battered her four-month-old daughter to death over a strained relationship with the girl's father.
Tradezsha Trenay Bibbs, 29, was sentenced on Monday, April 3, 2023, after being found guilty of felony murder in the death of Brielle Robinson, who was 4 months old, on April 16, 2016.
Bibbs had already been convicted of capital murder, but the decision was reversed, necessitating a second trial.
In 2016, when authorities were contacted, they found Bibbs and Brielle sharing a room at the Red Carpet Inn on the Gulf Freeway.
When she heard her daughter wailing, Bibbs allegedly told authorities that she picked her up by the arms and dropped her on the bed, causing the infant to tumble to the floor.
She kept striking her child in the face, chest, ribs, and legs until she stopped sobbing.
Brielle was then sent to Texas Children's Hospital, where doctors found that she had suffered substantial brain damage in addition to many fractures.
Bibbs first claimed to authorities that Brielle had fallen from her car seat to the concrete, but she later acknowledged making up the incident.
She admitted to authorities that a short time after bringing the baby to the motel, she lost concern for the infant's care and frequently dropped and "popped" the child in the face.
Bibbs allegedly repeatedly struck the baby after she stopped crying in the ribs and chest before calling 911 after her respiration stopped.
An deputy district attorney named Keaton Forcht claims that Bibbs killed her daughter because the child's father no longer wanted a contact with the mother.
During the week-long trial, the jury heard testimony from emergency department doctors who claimed that Bibbs did not appear concerned with the infant's health or the repercussions of the fatal head damage she caused.
