Jubilation as singer, Portable regains freedom after 3days in detention
Supporters and admirers of the controversial singer Portable celebrate his release from jail.
The street performer completed the requirements for his release from Ilaro Correctional Center, and was then granted release.
The singer was reportedly freed at around 6 p.m. on Monday after presenting his bail bond at the Ilaro Correctional facility.
On Monday morning, April 3, 2023, the popular musician was charged by the Ogun State Nigerian police at the Ifo High Court in Ogun State.
The street performer was charged with six offenses that included assault and theft of musical instruments.
The presiding Magistrate reached his decision about the mail application submitted by the artist's attorney and admitted the singer to bail on N300,000 with two sureties for the case involving theft. Also, he set his bail at N500,000 with two sureties for the problematic assault charge.
He had been granted bail by the Ifo Magistrates' Court. The court set his bail at N300,000 with two like-amount sureties.
According to the court's decision, both sureties must own land close to the court.
The trial was postponed until April 26.
