Fire guts Ooni of Ife’s palace courtyard [VIDEO]
On Friday night, an apartment structure within the palace courtyard of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, was demolished.
According to sources, the incident happened about 11:30 p.m. and was caused by a power surge that reportedly blasted through the apartment's electrical appliances.
In viral footage, the structure was demolished and nearly all of its contents were destroyed.
The event was verified in a statement released on Saturday by Comrade Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni's Palace.
But according to Olafare, the inferno was quickly put out by the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service, and Palace Emergency Control Unit. It only affected the building that was located in a particular area of the palace grounds.
He continued by saying that there were no casualties, injuries, or even cultural artifact losses associated with the occurrence.
