20-year-old boyfriend strangles girlfriend after she refuse to terminate her pregnancy
The Kano State Police Command has detained 20-year-old Philibus Ibrahim and a companion for allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend while she was still alive and leaving her body by the side of the road.
Theresa was reportedly strangled to death by Philibus after several unsuccessful attempts to end the pregnancy the dead was carrying for him.
According to SP Abdullahi Haruna, the state police spokesman, who confirmed the development in a statement, Philibus revealed that he and his companion Gabriel Bila killed the victim with a head knot after luring her to the jungle and committing the crime.
"A lady was seen laying on the ground motionless along the roadside at Anadariya Village, Bebeji Local Government Area, along Kano-Jos Road, Kano State, at approximately 1630 hours on March 28, 2023," SP Haruna said.
After learning of the information, CP Mamman Dauda, the commissioner of police for Kano State Command, called for a team of detectives to be sent to the location under the direction of SP Tanimu Wada, the divisional police officer (DPO), of Bebeji Division. The team arrived on the spot right away, took the body to Tiga General Hospital, and a doctor there pronounced her dead.
The dead was identified as Theresa Yakubu, 'f,' 20, of Anadariya Village, Bebeji LGA, who was two months pregnant at the time of her death. Also, it resulted in the detention of her lover, 20-year-old Philibus Ibrahim of Unguwar Korau Quarters, Tudun Wada LGA, and his companion, 25-year-old Gabriel Bila of the same location.
During an investigation, Philibus admitted to having gotten his girlfriend pregnant two months prior, and all attempts to get the pregnancy terminated had failed. Then, working along with his friend, they took her to a thicket, where the friend restrained her hands while Philibus strangled her to death with her head tie. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Murder Branch has received the case for a covert investigation.
"Suspects will be charged in court after the investigation is over."
